Savary Solutions About Us

Ruth & Paul live off-grid, on Savary, year-round at The Redhouse. As your Go To People, they offer the skill sets associated with retired careers in residential construction and early childhood education.

Both have long volunteer histories in the community. Paul served for 7-years on the Savary Island Committee & 16-years for the Savary Island Land Trust, from which they both hosted the Savarystock fundraiser. Serving since 2015, Ruth has recently become a lieutenant with the First Responders. Together they organize The Great Savary Island Beach Clean-up each May long weekend.

Ruth White: “Raised in Alberta, Savary has been a part of my life since 1984. My compassion for kids led me through 26 years in Early Childhood Education. I’m editor of the recently published book Savary Reflections, however you will most likely know me as your land taxi driver and/or the proprietor of Ruth Moon Soap Works, a continuing passion of making and selling essential oil artisan soaps and other products. As office manager for Savary Solutions I’m excited about expanding our community network.”

Paul Leighton: “Hailing from Vancouver’s North Shore, I’ve recently retired from a 40-year career in residential construction. I’ve had sand between my toes since 1966 and have been living here for all but 8 years since 1991. Choosing to live on Savary was about my connection with the island’s nature. Living with less became innate to that expression, an autodidactic lifestyle that continually accentuates & hones my maintenance, repair & recycling skills. I’m always looking for ways to expand the actions of Reduce, Reuse and the circular economy.”
